TMJ/TMD Therapy

Dentist looking at skull and jawbone x-rays

Do you have pain in your jaw? Do you clench or grind your teeth while you sleep? These could be signs of problems with your temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Dr. Mosby and Dr. Caldwell can provide a diagnosis and treat your TMJ disorder, commonly referred to as TMD. Depending on the cause, he can adjust the alignment of your bite, provide a custom mouthguard to wear at night or give you a personalized splint to relieve your symptoms and protect your smile.

Intraoral Camera

Dentist capturing intraoral images

In the past, when the dentist found something wrong in your mouth, you had no other choice but to trust their word for it. These days, Kingwood Family Dentistry uses a small, camera-tipped wand, called an iCam, to take photos of the inside of your mouth. These photos are projected onto a chairside monitor allowing Dr. Mosby or Dr. Caldwell to show you what they see, including areas of concern. That way you can make more confident, informed decisions in your treatment.

Digital X-Rays

3D CT scanner

The use of digital technology for X-rays is a win-win. Dr. Mosby and Dr. Caldwell are able to view internal tooth structures and the jaw for a complete assessment almost instantly. Unlike traditional X-rays, the digital image is clearer and more accurate and doesn’t require harsh chemicals or a lot of time to develop. Also, patients receive a thorough examination and 80-90 percent less radiation than with traditional methods. As an added bonus, the sensors used to take the digital X-rays are smaller and more comfortable than ever before!
